G1D has been giving our clients solutions to achieve creative & customized yet cost-effective interior surroundings, with an emphasis on environmental sustainable interior design practices since 1985. Specializing in residential, healthcare, institutional, and
hospitality projects.
Along with contemporary, transitional, and traditional residential projects, Sarah Byers, the founder of G1D, has had over two decades of experience with prominent firms in Kansas City, Detroit, and Ann Arbor, including internships in San Francisco and Kansas City.

While we have established close relationships with preferred consultants, we are open to working with client selected professionals. We are also available for interiors consultation on individual projects for architectural firms, engineering firms, contractors as well as other design firms.
We typically work on an hourly basis using our fee schedule or project based fees using our Tracking Form.

Sarah Byers
Owner/Principal – Group One Design State of Michigan Listed Designer
Ms. Byers, an award winning Interior Designer, adjunct professor, and an historic preservation enthusiast, grew up in Oakwood, Ohio.
She studied Interior Design at the University of Cincinnati and did her internships in San Francisco and Kansas City, Missouri.
After moving to Michigan with her son, she continued her journey towards becoming the award winning designer that she is. This path, included positions with various Detroit and Ann Arbor area design and architectural firms as well as several contracted projects for the University of Michigan. Although each firm had their own unique culture, Sarah consistently integrated her diverse experiences and design expertise to support and inspire colleagues and clients to work collectively towards a desired design solution. In addition, Ms. Byers has held positions as Adjunct Professor at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mi. and College For Creative Studies in Detroit.
Ms. Byers established Group One Design as a firm dedicated to giving solutions in any environment and any design classification. This sensitivity to our client’s needs is enhanced by continual skills enhancement as well as concentrated personal service to create a desired environment. We have found that a vast portion of clients do not have the time to research all the relationships of color, finishes, textures and possible remodeling scenarios that best fit their space. By working with G1D, clients are empowered with our practice of interior design standards. “When you are able to utilize your redesigned space, you will be closer to an esthetic ideal.”
Group One Design, has available, a group of experienced professionals’ expert in all the skills necessary to put together creative and customized, yet cost-effective surroundings. These professionals work under the direction of Ms. Byers who has a keen eye in addition to an extensive background in interior design.
Throughout Sarah’s career, she has used her vast expertise to help Group One Design’s clients find the most durable, cost efficient and appealing finishes and materials.
Ms. Byers believes in utilizing as much of the clients existing furniture, accessories, and artwork as possible if the client so desires, but also has myriad sources for new additions to develop the client’s desired image. She takes into consideration Feng Shui principles when the project allows and uses sustainable materials and finishes whenever possible.
